Lessons are formulated based on the students’ skill, motivation, and eagerness to make sounds whether beginner or seasoned performer. I believe everyone can make a joyful noise and connect to others once we have connected with ourselves. This happens through posture, breathwork, confidence, and choosing repertoire that is appropriate for the musician’s age, interest, range, and ability to practice at home or school.
If you are preparing for a role or audition, or simply wanting to make music for your own enjoyment, my methods will help you release tension and calm any nerves that might be inhibiting the sounds you have within your body. I believe that understanding the context of lyrics and the composer’s intention is vital to connecting to your audience.
I try to meet my students with respect and a hope that my experience can help you achieve a sound that brings you fulfillment, no matter where you are on your journey.
Guitar and uke students are taught basic music theory with an emphasis on playing chords in order to accompany themselves or others. Solo fingerstyle pieces are also taught with the tablature method. Voice students are taught the foundations of singing including posture, breathing, confidence, and performance. Pieces are chosen from classical crossover, musical theater, and some pop/rock repertoire.
